Star Wars appeared in 1977 and I was lucky enough to see the movie for the first time in a huge movie theater in New York City. I was young. It was amazing.
We proceeded to see that movie multiple times over the next few years. Other than theaters and TVs, the only way to watch a Star Wars from home was restricted to Super 8 short films (see below). It wasn't the same.
Sequels and, eventually, prequels couldn't arrive fast enough. Enter fandom. Slowly at first, fan films appears. Hardware Wars (see below) was the first I ever saw.
So, I hope you enjoy this Playlist of famous, infamous, and just fun fan films that I stumbled upon. Newly discovered fan films will appear in this playlist first before (potentially) being added to the Fan Film Saga Timeline.
As usual, all videos are owned by the various parties. Go to their websites and YouTube channels. Let them know how you feel.
Star Wars Fan films that fit into the overall Star Wars timeline will be added, in order, to the Star Wars Fan Film Saga. Enjoy!
I don't recall when I first saw Hardware Wars, but I remember the experience. It may have been the first real fan film that went viral. I want to say I saw it on the local news. Back then any news about Star Wars was a drawand I was excited. I actually started watching news for a while, only to be disappointed that there were no more additional discoveries.
So, without VCRs, DVRs, or anything like VOD or even the internet, us fans were regulated to what we could get our hands on. And, besides books and maganizes, which were both great, one of the few ways to see Star Wars IV at home was by watching 8mm.
The studios chopped the movie down to some interesting segments so that the whole thing was regulated to about 10 minutes. But, to have something available at home to watch whenever we wanted, we did. And, I probably wore out our copy.
